I’m Matthew Humphreys, a scientist at the NIOZ Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research on the island of Texel. I started using CO2SYS-MATLAB during my PhD in Southampton back in the early 2010s before transitioning to Python and creating PyCO2SYS originally in 2020 (plus CO2System.jl for Julia at around the same time). These days, I continue to develop PyCO2SYS and some other related Python packages alongside various other projects.
I’m Daniel Sandborn, and I work on CO2 and transient tracer dynamics as a postdoc at the University of Washington. I’m a contributor to PyCO2SYS, as well as to other ocean carbon packages including TRACE, TRACE-Python, and PyESPER, which I hope to make more interoperable with marine carbonate system software.
Hello! I’m Oscar Branson. I work on biomineralisation at Earth Sciences in Cambridge, and am particularly interested in carbonate chemistry from that angle. Also have half a foot in palaeoceanography, and therefore carbonate system chemistry in seawater with unusual compositions.

I wrote a python carbon system calculator (cbsyst), put together an improved (i.e. faster) python implementation of the MyAMI model (pymyami) for empirically correcting Ks for palaeo seawater, and am a maintainer of KGen, which is designed to provide consistent-cross platform K values for palaeo (and modern) seawater.

I work on all things carbon. Traditionally plankton related but morerecently excited about benthic carbon and alkalinity fluxes. I also have some feelings for phosphorous, and on a good day for nickel.

I am Jean-Pierre Gattuso, the original creator of the seacarb R package, first released in 2007. Over the years, the project has benefited from the valuable contributions of many colleagues. Now retired and holding emeritus status, I am pleased to announce that James Orr has kindly agreed to succeed me as the maintainer and lead developer for future functions and improvements.
Hi all, I’m Luke Gregor, a data scientist at the Swiss Data Science Center (ETH Zürich) and part-time oceanographer (20%) in Nicolas Gruber’s group. My work sits at the intersection of machine learning and ocean biogeochemistry, mostly reconstructing surface ocean fCO₂ and air-sea CO₂ fluxes from sparse observations. I end up using carbonate system calculations as a tool rather than studying them in depth, so I’m here more as an interested user than a CO₂-sys developer (though I did, once upon a time, contribute to the code base). Looking forward to following the discussion!
I’m Steve Jones, working at VLIZ in Ostend and data coordinator for ICOS Ocean Thematic Centre. I’m generally involved in surface ocean CO2 measurements. I write software for processing and QC of ocean data, and am involved with SOCAT, SOCONET and general surface ocean CO2 networks. I’m starting to explore processing data from pH and other related sensors, so while my work isn’t directly related to the group, I can certainly exist on the fringes…
Hi folks! Brendan Carter of CICOES at the University of Washington, working with NOAA PMEL. I’ve previously released software and data products for estimating preformed properties, anthropogenic carbon (TRACE), and biogeochemical properites (LIAR, LIRs, ESPERs)… mostly available through my GitHub.
I’m Caroline Fradette, I started using CO2SYS-MATLAB while working as an intern in Dr. Andrew Dickson’s lab modeling systematic and random biases in carbonate system parameters. My master’s at Dalhousie University focused on data quality of carbon system parameters for coastal ocean acidification and ocean alkalinity enhancement monitoring. I currently work as a Research Scientist at UW in the PMEL Carbon Group (Brendan is one of my groups PI’s!)
Hi There! I’m Gerianne Terlouw. I work as a Chemical Oceanographer at SeaO2 in the Netherlands. SeaO2 is a Direct Ocean Capture startup, developing mCDR technology. I started using CO2sys-Excel when I was a graduate student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Eric De Carlo’s lab.
My name is Barham Gueye, and I am a first-year PhD student in a cotutelle program in marine biogeochemistry between Sorbonne University (LOCEAN laboratory) and Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (Laboratory of Atmospheric and Ocean Physics, LPAO-SF).
My research focuses on the carbonate system in the Canary Upwelling region, particularly the Senegal–Mauritania upwelling system.
I am especially interested in the measurement and analysis of biogeochemical parameters such as total alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), pH, and pCO₂.
For my PhD work, I use the CO2SYS MATLAB toolbox. I am also interested in computing CO₂ air–sea fluxes in MATLAB, and I would appreciate any advice on this. In addition, I would like to know whether there are more recent or advanced versions of CO2SYS for MATLAB that you would recommend.

Hello, I’m Christophe Noisel, I work at LOCEAN, Paris as an electrical engineer. I’m a hardware guy and my work about CO2 is mostly about maintaining and designing sea surface measurement instruments that we get to deploy on moorings and ships.
