Is anyone planning to go to the International Carbon Dioxide Conference (ICDC12) in Exeter next June? The [call for abstracts](https://icdc12.org/call-for-abstracts/) is now open, including for mini-workshops, and I was thinking about submitting a proposal to run a PyCO2SYS workshop. But might not a more general workshop on marine carbonate system calculations be even better?

Would anyone interested in participating in this? We’d need people to help come up with non-tool-specific ideas for content and worked examples to include in the workshop; then the code for those examples would need to be written up in as many different tools as we’re going to showcase; and at least one person who was experienced with each tool would ideally be there on the day to help participants out.

So please have a think and reply here if you’re interested. It would be perfectly possible to help with many of the things above without actually attending the conference and without being an expert or developer, so don’t let those things hold you back! 😁

There is plenty of time to prepare - the submission deadline is 15 December.

Maybe we could introduce and provide tools for the calculations we proposed in the SOP and ILC, meaning calculation of amount of substance content of the calibration solutions (or rather linearity check solutotions), and their uncertainties as well as uncertainties for the regression and subsequent DIC measurements? I would be happy to assist, and provide implementations in MS Excel and maybe Mathematica (if the latter is used for such purposes). Might even be possible that I go to the conference.

Hi @Steffen_Seitz, I think that’s a really good idea for a workshop which I would be interested to contribute to. I do wonder whether it would fit into the _same_ workshop as what I had in mind on marine carbonate system calculations - it’s a quite different type of calculation, and though there would be some overlap it’s not quite the same audience. So I think two separate workshops might be more effective for these things, but we could start developing ideas and see if and how they could fit together.

A SOP/ILC workshop could potentially be expanded to include similar calculations for alkalinity, pH and/or pCO2 measurements, if the right people were interested in helping set it up.

Hi @mvdh , it was really just an idea. I have to admit that I don’t have the time to organise a second workshop myself. So, if you would like integrate the topics in your workshop, I would be happy to assist. But from my side, it’s certainly not a must. If you’d rather focus on what you had originally planned, let’s just stick with that. No problem at all.
